Teeth Straightening
Jaw orthopaedics (orthodontistry) is a branch of dentistry dealing with the diagnosis and correction of irregularities of the teeth, jaws and face in children and adults.
Our aim in therapy is to achieve good functioning of the oral system and an ideal smile which suits the appearance of your face!
Orthodontic treatments include the use of various removable and fixed appliances which produce a slight force to move natural teeth into a more desirable position. This is a healthy way of improving the health of your teeth and achieving a more attractive and natural smile.
- The main benefits of orthodontic treatment are:
- • correcting malocclusions and establishing the proper functioning of the teeth and jaws,
- • making a healthy and attractive smile and a harmonious facial appearance which helps to build self confidence and improves the patient’s professional and private life,
- • prevention of damage of prominent teeth,
- • improving conditions for the maintenance of oral hygiene which, in the long term, enables the patient to keep his mouth and teeth healthy,
- • the teeth and jaws of patients lacking one or more teeth can be prepared to accept prosthetic replacements and implants, so prolonging their functionality and their life.
In line with the latest scientific achievements, we are in a position to offer our patients state-of-the-art systems of orthodontic appliances which enable comfortable, painless and rapid therapy, and which can also satisfy the aesthetic requirements of people today.
TYPES OF APPLIANCES
Removable plate appliances
These consist of an acrylic plate and wire elements. The patient inserts and removes the appliance himself. These are most often used between the ages of seven and eleven and are often worn as preparation for later treatment with functional or fixed devices.

Functional appliances
These are used to correct an irregular bite. They may be:
• removable – inserted and removed by the patient. These are ideal for wearing during puberty but, in some cases, may also be used between the ages of six and nine. The appliance is worn day and night, but is removed for eating, during sporting activities and for cleaning. After wearing a functional appliance it is often necessary to continue therapy with fixed appliances so the teeth will set properly.

• fixed – These are attached to the teeth with a special cement and can not be removed by the patient. They consist of locks, bands, orthodontic wire and other elements. The usual duration of the therapy is between nine months and two years, but may be longer in some cases of extreme irregularities. New and sophisticated technology has resulted in the creation of a new generation of fixed appliances which are smaller, less obvious and reduce the duration of the therapy.

Fixed appliances
Fixed appliances are divided according to the material they are made of:
metal brackets – most commonly used, especially for younger patients. Elastic rubbers which fix the wire onto the brackets come in different colours to give the appliance a cheerful and interesting appearance. The patient may choose the colour of the rubbers and get a new look at each check-up.

• aesthetic brackets – made of plastic (tooth-coloured) or ceramic (transparent). Many patients don’t want their appliance to be obvious on their teeth and this gives them the confidence to smile, even while undergoing therapy

• Highly technologically advanced metal brackets which reduce friction and create a slight force. Using this system of brackets:
- - therapy is completed more quickly
- - the patient is more comfortable, pain is felt less often during therapy
- - oral hygiene is easier
- - check-ups take less time
- - check-ups are required only once every two or three months.
